CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.

BUY YOUR GOODS IN PAEROA. SPLENDID DISPLAY OF GIFTS. The miseries and misfortunes which attended many settlers in this district through the disastrous floods that swept over the land earlier this year have fortunately been quickly forgotten, even by those who suffered most,, and prosperity abounds once again The sturdy settler of to-day does not readily give in when misfortune overtakes him : instead, he may .worry and heav.e many sighs of apparent despair, but he knows in his heart that such a calamity as a flood, causing devastation and loss, is an act of God, and that “every cloud is silver-lined.” With the passing of the winter months and the advent of spring this wonderfully fertile Thames Valley and famous Hauraki Plains has responded to treatment, and will, no doubt, give the farmer a four-fold return for the labour he spends in bringing his property to a state of productivity again. To the primary producer the tbanks- of the tradesmen is due, for it is readily recognised that if the producer slackens his efforts the towns must accordingly feel the depression. Small wonder it is then that the business people of Paeroa have this Christmas banded together in a determined manner to cater adequately for the country visitors, as well as local residents of this town. The brilliantly dressed windows are a blaze of festive glory, and seldom if ever have the shops displayed a greater selection of goods or the articles been more moderately priced. A sentiment pervades the land at Christmas which is absent at all other seasons of the year. It is a time of jubilation and rejoicing ; a time when thoughts go out to others, no matter how distant they may be by land or sea; a time when old hurts are healed and good resolutions scheduled for the New Year. And so, when ushering in Christmas Shopping Week the public are reminded that Paeroa is growing, possibly slowly, but surely, and each and everyone should make an honest endeavour to assist its growth and extend prosperity by supporting the local business men. Consider that during the lean months many local tradsmen have generously given long terms of credit to those requiring it, and now that mon§y has become more plentiful, and the season of giving and spending is at hand, it will only be a gracious act on the part 'of many to spend the hard cash with the local business people. Sterling value, a wide range of goods, with prices second to none in the province; these things make Paeroa, centrally situated in the midst of a large and fertile dairying district, an ideal shopping centre. Shop early and often, and shop in your own town, is the slogan. Study the brief description of some of the Paeroa businesses given in these columns and make Paeroa your shopping centre.
