BAND CONCERT.
ENTERTAINMENT AT PAEROA. GRATIFYING RESULTS ATTAINED. A party of vocalists and entertainers from Te Aroha, together with the Te Aroha Municipal Band, gave a very successful concert at the Gaiety Theatre last night, the object being to provide funds for new band instruments. The items contributed throughout the programme were well given, and received generous applause from an appreciative audience. The singing of Mrs Bush, Miss Woodroffe, and Mr Young was particularly good, as al-so was the violin solo by Mr L. Flatt. The saw solo, which was quite a novelty to many, was an item of outstanding merit. Mr Christensen, who manipulated a real) saw with a violin bow, showed what it was possible to do with such a crude musical instrument, Mr Wykes, who proved quite a favourite with the audience, was repeatedly recalled. The cornet playing by Mr L. Buchan and the trombone selection by Mr P. Jarrett were two good numbers. The items by the band were played with great effect, and the bandmaster is to be congratulated upon the efficiency with which the various pieces were rendered. Mr V. Grinlingtan gave a couple of excellent humorous recitations. The last tq be mentioned, but by no means least, is the accompaniste, Miss G. Gardner, who played the various accompaniments in a finished manner.
After the interval Mrs Gordon, Mayoress of Te Aroha, in returning thanks for the help and appreciation accorded the band, said that if Paeroa decided to get a band together Te Aroha would have the greatest of pleasure in helping.
