FERRY AT PIPIROA.

ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. ESTABLISHMENT OFFERED. One of the largest public meetings held in Pipiroa for some time was convened by Mr G. Goldthorpe and held on Tuesday evening to ascertain the feeling of the district in regard to a proposal to have a ferry established over the Piako River at Pipiroa. Settlers of Pipiroa, Waitakariiru, and Kopuarahi attended i'i force, and Cr. C. W. Parfitt was appointed chairman. Messrs G. Goldthorpe and J. Galvin reported having interviewed Messrs' Dodd and Gibbons, directors of the firm of R. P. Gibbons, Ltd., lessees of tlie Kopu-Orongo ferry, together with the county chairman, Cr. J. C. Miller. Gibbons, Ltd., had the requisite plant, and were .very keen on establishing a ferry between Pipiroa .and Kopuarahi as it would be a feeder to the OrongcKopu ferry. The firm was prepared to supply the pontoon, cables, and all the gear necessary for the working of the ferry if the county council would provide the approaches and permit the firm to operate the ferry. It was unanimously decided, on the motion of Mr G. GoWthorpe, seconded by Mr J. Porter, that a deputation of three work with and through the County Council to obtain all information on the proposal, and vj obtain a isubsidy, if possible, for the approaches from the Main Highways Board. Messrs J. Galvin (Pipiroa), R. T. Williams (Waitakaruru), and D. J. O'Carroll (Kopuarahi) were appointed the deputation. There was much discussion at the meeting on the Hauraki Plains County Council bridge policy, and a motion approving of it was .moved by Mr E. C. Marshall, seconded by Mr F. Wallis, ami declared carried.
