PAEROA POST OFFICE.

PLANS PREPARED, V ' A HANDSOME STRUCTURE. Plans for the new post office at Paeroa have been received at. the local office of the Public Works Department. An inspection of the plans shows that the design of the building is totally different to the usual stereotype design of Government buildings, and many new features have been incorporated. The triangular shaped section on which the post office will stand lends itself admirably to a handsome building, and all the skill and craftmanship of the architect has been put into the plans. . Briefly described, ■ the building will be of brick and concrete, and twostoreyed, having a frontage of 65ft to Normanby Road and 75ft to Princes ? Street, with a frontage of 41%ft on the corner opposite the band rotunda. The main entrance to the building is * of circular vestibule shape, with concrete steps leading inwards. On either side are two huge columns of handsome design. The private boxes are situated on the right of the vestibule. On going through the main entrance, on the left is the public space and counters, writing desks, and telephone cells. Continuing on is the postmaster’s room and men’s conveniences. The right-hand side of the building comprises the mail room, telephone exchange, and ladies’ retiring room. At the end of the main building on the Princes Street frontage there is an intervening space of about 100 ft, which will form a grass plot, and then there is a smaller build.ng comprising telegraph lines store, battery room, and motor garage. . The whole of the upstairs porv ,-tion of the building forms the postmaster’s residence, A large balcony, supported by two columns, is immediately above the vestibule main entrance, leading into a sewing room, which in turns leads into a short corridor. On the Normanby Road side of the building is situated a sittingroom, dining-room, kitchen, pantry, and scullery, and on the Princes Street side are three bedrooms and conveniences. The rooms are fine large ones, and handsomely finished in the best of materials and every possible convenience. Cavity walls are provided through the building, and the latest methods in concrete and brickwork are to be employed. The whole of the exterior of the building, will be of scarlet brick, while the columns and ornamental work will be composed of concrete, heavily reinforced where necessary. Electric light will be installed, and provision is made for connecting with the borough sewerage system. It is worthy of comment that the work of no less than eleven different trades will be called on during the construction of the building. The specifications provide for .the completion of the building, including a handsome brick and iron rail fence surrounding, within fourteen months from the date of the acceptance of the tender. Residents of Paeroa and the surrounding district may well congratulate them- . selves on the handsome structure that is to be provided.
