NEW FOLLIES.

A BRIGHT, SNAPPY SHOW. There was only a moderate attendance at the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, to witness the programme submitted by Miss Lee Smith’s New Follies, which are making a tour of the Dominion prior to sailing for Australia This talented combination presented a programme de luxe, the items’ comprising topical sketches and the latest songs and patter. Miss Lee Smith, who is possessed of a good voice, gave a delightful rendering of “ I wonder if they ever think of me,” and as an encore sang “ Look for the Silver Lining ’’ very acceptably. Doreen Adela was loudly applauded for her presentation of the song “ Oh, Harold !” and replied with' a step dance which was cleverly executed. The tenor of the party wk Frank Meade, who received a well deserved applause for his first song, “ I never thought you’d care.’ The humour of the evening w,as provided by Jolly John Larkins, who kept the audience in fits of laughter with his clever patter and facial contortions. The second portion of the programme opened with an Eastern iscene entitled “Arabia,” which was well staged, the dresses and scenery being particularly good. From th2 mystic East, the audience was quickly transferred to ,a quaint Indian ensemble, in which the various members of the company rendered songs in cosumes suitable to the scene. The entertainment concluded with an amusing comedy entitled “ Mrs Gallagher." The programme throughout was bright and snappy, and devoid of vulgarity. The quiet, unassuming manner and sympathetic accompanying of the pianiste, Miss Dorothy Verne, was favourably commented on.
