RACING PERMITS.
MANY APPLICATIONS. MINISTER SECURING EVIDENCE. It is expected that by the end of this month the Minister for Internal Affans will be in a position to make a pronouncement that the racing world anticipates with some anxiety —the allotment of the 31 permits authorised in. the Gaming Amendment Bill passed last session. Mr Bollard admits that he has knotty problems to unravel. In ajn interview Mr Bollard said he had already received applications for more than doubly the number of permits the Act makes available. Each application has been accompanied by an active canvass which takes the form of personal representations, either by deputation or by a delegate of the club hoping to benefit. He has already had conferences with the racing and trotting conferences, and '.s now having one with the representatives of the County Racing Clubs’ Association, He anticipates that they will be in agreement with the allotment of 75 per cent, of the additional permits, leaving possibly 25 per cent, to be the subject of discussion and conference.
A slight reallocation of permits will be made as well as new ones granted. Mr Bollard is securing evidence that he hopes will assist him in determining where the new permits should go. Besides conferring with and soliciting suggestions from rhe Racing Conference Mr Bollard intends to visi* as many districts as is practicable. Even so, he anticipates having his allotment ready as a Christmas gift, and hopes that his judgment may be generally accepted as in the best interests of the racegoing folk of the Dominion.
