JERSEY BREEDERS.
THAMES VALLEY CLUB, MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club was held in the N.Z. Dairy Co.’s board-room, Paeroa, on Thursday morning last. The president, Mr B. E Veale, presided over Messrs G. Buchanan, E. J. Walters, J. Morrison, and the secretary, Mr W. L. Lawrence, DONATION OF BOOKS. Mr J. W. Irwin forwarded two conies of the N.Z. Jersey Herd Book and the latest issue of the "Advanced Register of Merit,” which he asked the club to accept with his compliments. The donation was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to record the club’s appreciation of Mr Irwin’s generosity. JERSEY BREEDERS’ OAKS. The president introduced the matter of the club making provision for a Jersey Breeders’ Oaks at local A. and P. shows in the future. After some discussion it was decided that if sufficient inducement offered an Oaks be arranged, and entries be made retrospective from last year. It was agreed that entries could now' be accepted for last year as well as this year, and that the competition be run on lines similar to those prevailing at the Waikato A. and P. Association, subject to the approval of the Hauraki A and P. Association. SHOW DONATION. It was agreed to donate the sum of £l5 to the Hauraki A. and P. Association far pedigree Jersey classes. PEDIGREE SALE. When discussing matters arising out of the club’s pedigree sale of last month Mr Buchanan said he was of the opinion that the club should not allow any cattle to be sold at its annual sale unless the entries were included in the official catalogue. He contended that it was not a fair proposition that, members should have to bear th.e proportionate cost of advertising and incidental charges while a lew breeders enjoyed the privileges of the club’s activities without contributing anything towards the cost. The president agred with the suggestion and said he hoped to see it carried out at the next isale. Tn comparison with other pedigree sales in the Auckland province it was agred that the members bad every reason to congratulate themselves on the results of the recent sale, and it was considered that the breeders had gained valuable experience as a result of their enterprise. Mr Buchanan remarked that the time was not far distant when dairy farmers would require stock containing only the heat blood procurable, backed by undoubted butter-fat production. So far as the Jersey ..breed was concerned, he said, the Thames Valley now contained strains of some of the finest blood in New Zealand. A FINE PIECE OF WORK. On the motion of Mr Buchanan, seconded by the president, it was resolved to convey the club’s appreciation and best thanks to the Hauraki Plains "Gazette” for the prompt manner in which the sale catalogues had been prepared, and at the same time to congratulate the firm on the splendid article produced. A hearty vote of .thanks was also accorded the secretary for the valuable services rendered in connection with the sale. It was decided to hold a general meeting oh Tuesday, December 2, and that Mr W. J- Hall, Matatoki, be asked to read a paper on the early history of Jersey females. Accounts totalling £l2 4s 4d were passed for payment
