Mr James Higgins has been appointed engineer to the Thames County Council out of 18 applicants.
Mr N. S. Cassrels left Matamata last week for Rotorua, where he has taken up his residence.
Mr H. Poland, M.P., returned from Wellington on Saturday and went on to Tauranga, but is expected home tonight.
The Auckland Education Board at its meeting on Wednesday last appointed Mr C. R. Briggs, headmaster of the Kopuarahi school, headmaster at. Paparoa.
Mr P. C. Furlley, town clerk, Birkenhead, and ex-town clerk of Paeroa, is at present on a visit to Paeroa. Mr Furley expresses surprise at the progress made in the borough during the past two years.
Lieut. AV. L. Lawrence, Sergt. R McOlinchy, and Corpl. F. Keating, of the Ist battalion, Hauraki Regiment, left on Saturday for the infantry school of instruction at Narrow Neck camp.
