NETHERTON. SALE OF WORK. For a very long time .the Netherton Ladies’ Guild has been working with the object of raising funds with which to have a church built in the township. So far three sales of work have been held, the latest being on Friday last, when, despite the very unfavourable weather, there wae .a large number present at the Netherton Hall and very brisk business was done. It is estimated that the proceeds amounted to about £55. The various stalls were well laden with both useful and dainty articles, and practically everything was sold. A cookery competition was particularly well patronised, the prize-win-ners being as follows: Ginger-bread, Mif M. J. Duncan 1, Mrs C. A. Stembridge 2 ; sponge roll, Mrs T. Vowles 1, Mrs W. G. Crosby 2; fruit cake, Mrs Hastings 1, Mrs Wilson, senr., 2 , seed cake, Mrs Olsen 1, Mrs Trego weth 2; shortbread, Mrs Locke 1. Mrs McKenna 2; sponge sandwich, Miss Longley 1, Mrs H. Dally 2; scones. Mrs M. J. Duncan 1. Mrs Vercoe 2 ; bread, Mrs McKenna 1, Mrs H. R. Robinson. 2 ; pikelets, Mrs McKenna 1, Mrs W. Potter 2. Various competitions were held during the evening, and when all the stalls had been depleted of their wares the floor was cleared for dancing.
Those in charge of stalls were: Fancy work, Mrs Adams and Mrs Potter ; plain work, Mrs McNeil and Mrs Robinson ; cake stall, Mrs Craig and Miss Whisker; sweets, Mrs Stembridge, assisted by Misses Craig, Adams, and Raffill ; fruit salads, etc., Mrs G. Johansen and Misses McNeil and Williams ; jumble stall, Mesdames Death, Dunlop, and A. Vowles; afternoon lea, Mesdames Dallj' and Locke. NGATEA. TENNIS CLUB. Tlie annual general meeting of the Ngatea Tennis Club was held in the Hall on Saturday evening, Mr J. N. Anderson presiding over a small attendar.ee of members. The balance-sheet showed a small deficit The officers appointed for the ensuing year were: President, Mr J. N. Anderson ; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Terrill and A. E. Ludlow, and Mrs W. G. Hayward ; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. M. Robb; delegate to Hauaki Plains Tennis Association, Mr W. G. Hayward; committee, Messrs A. E. Ludlow. W. Wylde, F. Nicol, Mrs Bertelsen, and Miss Hayward; club captain, Mr J. N. Anderson. Subscription fees were fixed at 10s for men and 5s for ladies. The date of the opening day was fixed for November 22.
