(.To the Editor.! Sir. —It would appear that no echo of Animal Welfare Week has reached Paeroa, for the condition of a number of calves running on the racecourse is a terrible discredit to the owner. When* they were first put on these calves were in a poor state, and there appeared to be insufficient, feed to support them. Though many are improving some are still emaciated, and some have died and some are in an apparently dying condition. If the owner can do nothing else, surely in common humanity he should look over the place every day or two and put a merciful end to the ones that are lying helplessly about slowly dy*--Ing. HUMANITY.
