POLICE COURT.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1924. (Before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M.) ‘ LIQUOR TO NATIVE. Want Paklnga was charged with, on •October 12, supplying one bottle containing whisky and three bottles ■>£ home brew stout to another Native for consumption off licensed premises, contrary to section 43 of the Licensing Act,’ 1910. Defendant pleaded guilty. Constable McOl.inchy stated that he had arrested defendant for drunkenness. Defendant had the liquor in his possession, and when questioned about the matter had stated that a man living near the Roman Catholic Church, Paeroa, had given him the liquor, but inquiries made had failed to prove that anyone in that vicinity had supplied the liquor. Defendant was convicted and fined £l. and costs 7s. Time was allowed until Friday to find the money, in default 7 days’ imprisonment. NO LIGHT. Nelson Edgar Burmester, baker, Te Aroha, was charged with driving a baker’s cart along the main PaeioaTe Aroha road, near Waitoki, after sunsei, on September 28 without proper lights on the vehicle. Defendant pleaded guilty, and stated that he had been delayed by a lyea'idown, which had caused a considerable delay. It was his first offence, and had it mot been for the unavoidable delay the cart would have been o__the road before “sunset. The Magistrate said that such practices were a constant danger to the travelling .public, and the by-laws would have to be observed. Defend-, ant was convicted and fined 10s, with costs 7s.
