TRIBUTE OF ESTEEM.

IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY. THE LATE CAPTAIN PEACOCK. A further token of the respect and esteem in which he was held was paid to the memory of the late Captain Henry Peacock by the residents of Paeroa yesterday morning, when a large and representative gathering of citizens assembled at the railway station prior to the departure of the 6.40 a.m. train for Auckland, which conveyed the remains, en route to Point O’Neill cemetery, Devonport. The local platoon ofi A Company, Haa.raki Regiment, and the 4'sth company of Senior Cadets attached to the regiment, paraded in good strength under the command of Captain A. E. Porritt, M.C., officer commanding A Company. Af the railway station, and as the coffin passed down the lines on the way to the mortuary van, the funeral salute was impressively given by the troops, and the steadiness of all ranks was commendable, especially in view of the fact that it was the first military funeral the lads had attended. The coffin, draped with the Union Jack, on top of which were placed the cap and sword of the deceased, was borne by Major E. Edwards, Lieutenants W. L. Lawrence and R. B. Penlington, and Staff Sergt.-Major (W.0.) N. C. Busby, officers of the Hauraki Regiment, in which Captain Peacock had held the position of adjutant. Major C. E. Andrews, 0.8. E., N.Z.S.C., commanding the No, 2 regimental district, was also present, and accompanied the remains .o Auckland. A silent tribute of the-love and esteem that existed for the deceased was expressed by the large number of wreaths and other floral emblems winch accompanied the coffin. Included in the many received were floral tributes from His Worship the Mayor, the Hauraki Regiment, 45th Company Senior Cadets, Thames Valley Returned Soldiers’ Association, Ohinemuri Club, Paeroa Bowling Club, and Paeroa Golf Club,
