N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

MEETING OF NGATEA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea < y branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held on Monday evening, there being present: Messrs J. Bratlie (chairman), C. W. Schultz, F. Louch, A. Cleaver, G. Phillips, Rowlings, J. Foote, and E. W. Martin, secretary. RECREATION GROUND. The chairman reported having interviewed the local director of the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co. with regard to the proposal to secure an area of about nine acres near th> Ngatea butter factory for a recreation grpund. Mr Hale had stated .that he was not in a position to do business, and had suggested that the union make the compnay an offer. The matter was discussed at length, and it was decided to submit an offer to lease the area for ten at a rental equal to six per cent, on £lOO an acre. POLITICAL ACTION. A circular was received from the provincial secretary staring that executive had decided that the time had come to take definite action in the political field and prepare for the next general election. A recommendation was submitted that an endeavour should be m*ide to contest the Bay of Islands, Marsden, Thames, Ohinemuri, Raglan, Tauranga, Rotorua, Waikato, and Waitomo seats on behalf of the Country Party. Meetings would be called in each electorate to discust the proposal.—Received. PUHANGA BRIDGE. Mr Phillips said that the Lands Drainage Department had been asked to have chocks placed on the decking of the Puhanga bridge, but so far nothing had been done and on numerous __ occasions horses had fallen. It was decided to communicate with the drainage engineer on the matter. COUNTY MATTERS. A iong discussion took place on county matters, and it was decided that two or three members of the union should attend the meetings .>f the council and report to the union.
