HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY. " MEETING OF UNION. A meeting of the management committee of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held at Ngatea on Monday evening, the president, Mr J. Costello, presiding over the following: Messrs J. H. Nicholson, W. Thompson, M. Leonard, E. Berteisen, G. Porteous, KW Wallis, and J. N. Anderson, the sfec- ' retary. • REPRESENTATIVE CAPS. The secretary reported that during the season over thirty players had been includeid in the representative matches. Seven of them had only played one game. The question arose as to how many caps should be purchasfed. Caps cost from 7s 6d to 12s 6d each, and the contributions for the purpose in hand at present amounted to £l2 6s. The chairman thought that a man who only played one game should not expect a cap, but it’was for the delegates to decide. Mr Porteous moved, and Mr Leonard seconded, that all men who had played two or more matches be given a cap. * As an amendment Mr Thompson moved, and Mr Nicholson seconded, that all men who had played any representative match should receive a cap The opinion was expressed that further time was allowed more contributions would be forthcoming, so that there would be sufficient funds to purchase caps for all players. On the other hand, a man who only played one game could not be classed as a representative. At tile Waihi match the team comprised anyone whom the managers could pick up at the lasmoment; A suggestion was made that the proceeds of the junior cup finals be put towards the cap funds. The amendment was put to the meeting and carried by five, votes co three, and it was then decided to de- • fer the matter until funds became available and to extend the closing date of subscription lists for a fortnight. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £2 14s were passed for payment. THE JUNIOR COMPETITION, In regard to the junior competition, the Turua delegate said that his club could not play again because it was getting so late in the season and several of the men could not get away. The suggestion had been made that the names of both Ngatea and Turua be inscribed on the/ shield, or that no ’- name at all be inscribed. The Ngatea delegate urged that a third match be played. The club wished to win the competition on its merits. Mr Porteous pointed out that the teams were equal, and that if one ot them'won a match it would be by a chance score or because onfe of the clubs could not put forward its usual team. The question was argued at great length the Ngatea delegate, stating that his team would not be agreeable to bracketing the names on the shield, no matter how many games resulted in draws. Mr Wallis moved, and Mr Berteisen seconded, that the match be replayed on Saturday next. Mr Porteous pointed out that if this was carried Turua would have to forfait as a team could not be put in the field. The motion was carried, Messrs Wallis. Leonard, and Berteisen voting for it and Messrs Porteous and Nicholson against it. Mr Thompson moved, and Mr Nicholson seconded, that the match oe played at Turua. An amendment was moved by Mr Berteisen and seconded by Mr Leonard that the match be played at Ngatea. Upon being put to the meeting the amendment was lost and the motion was then carried. The time was fixed at 2 p.m., and the referee chosen was Mr J. Kidd. The Turua Club was asked to notify the Union if it intended to forfeit as seen as possible. A WIND-UP FUNCTION.
