DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA, THE ROADING SCHEME. The first puntload of metal for use in the Turua Town Board’s bitumen loading scheme arrived on Thursday afternoon. The metal was obtained from the new quarry opened up by a private firm in the Kauaeranga Valley, and it will be dumped on the concrete road. It is the intention of the board to get as much of the metal in hand as possible before the actual work commences. An excavation has been made in the mud near the wharf so that punts will lie level when the tid« is out, and a mast and boom to facilitate unloading have been erected nearby. An electric hoist will probably be in operation by next week. THE FORTHCOMING BAZAAR. A mistake appeared in a paragraph in Wednesday’s issue wherein it was stated that the Turua Tennis Club’s bazaar would be held on Friday, October 10. It is the bazaar at Kerepeehi which will be held on that date, the Turua bazaar being on Friday next, October 3. KEREPEEHI. TOWNSHIP ROADS. The Lands Drainage Department is at the present time having Matai Street, Rimu Street, and Miro Street in Kerepeehi township formed up to permanent levels. Tractors, graders, scoops, and ploughs are busily employed.
