ALL BLACKS' FIFTH GAME. SWANSEA DECISIVELY BEATEN. Advice was received locally yesterday morning that the All Blacks had decisively beaten Swansea by 39 points to 3. This is the highest number of points yet registered by the 1924 All Blacks, the next highest being 38, which were gained in the third test match against New South Wales on July 16 last. The next match of the tour will, be played against Newport on Thursday. PLAINS JUNIOR COMPETITION. ANOTHER DRAWN GAME. Another fruitless effort was made on Saturday to decide the winner of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Unio-iT junior competition, and again Ngatea and Turua secured equal points. The game was played at Turua. The ground was in good order, and there was a steady breeze blowing. The equality of the the strength of the two teams made the play very fast and interesting, and a good exhibition of hard, clean football was presented. At the end of the four quarter-hour spells the scores were equal, so the match was continued for another two tenminute spells, but without result. The Rugby Union will meet on Monday evening and decide the next step. The teams lined out as follows : Ngatea.—R. Phillips, B. Haywai 1, C. McKerchar, W. Blacklaws, A. Courtenay, O. Cleave, G. Clotworthy, J. Spencer, F, Olsen, G. Johnson, W. Taylor. B. Hill, L. Zeigiar, W. Elvin. Turua kicked off into the wind. Ngatea attacked and reached Turua’.' line, where close play ensued, but the defence proved sound and play was returned to midfield. Jones market! and Turua by following up entered the visitors’ territory. The Turua backs, however, let Ngatea through and play went to the other end of the field. An interchange of kicks, followed by an open rush, put Ngatea on the defensive. A mark relieved to the twenty-five, where .the attackers gained a‘ penalty from which Ngatea forced. From the drop-out play was in neutral, territory until the changa over. Turua, with the advantage of the wind, played an open game. A. Elvin secured in midfield and made a good run. scoring in the corner. Hill failed to convert. Turua 3, Ngatea 0/ The to the line in Turin’s territory, but the home team gained the ball from the throw-in and carried play to midfield. Martin received a knock on the head and tiral, D. Hutchinson filling his place. Play was in neutral territory until a free kick sent the ball to the line near Turin’s corner flag. The defenders received from the line-out and returned to the neutral zone, where fast play ensued until half time. On resuming Ngatea followed up well and O. Cleave scored, Hayward failed with the kick. Turua 3, Ngatea 3. Fast play in neutral ground followed the kick-out, Turua gradually gaining ground. Madgwick put in a good run, but was stopped in front of the posts by Hayward. relieved to midfield, and a loose rush by Ngatea looked dangerous. A free kick to Turua negatived the effort, am! play returned to midfield, from where Ngatea failed with a drop-kick at goal and Turua forced. Fast open play followed, neither side holding the advantage. A long kick was forced by Turua. Ngatea made a determined attack and almost reach the line, but a penalty relieved the pressure. The kick was scrummed, from which Cleave marked and converted. Ngatea 6, Turua 3. The last round opened with more fast, open play in neutral territory, Turua gaining ground by line play but losing it in the open. A long kick found the line in Turua’s twenty-five, but play was returned to halfiway by a penalty. Another line kick, by Clotworthy, gained much ground, but Ngatea worked back again until Clarke wa - knocked out, being replaced by Aberhart. Play was gradually worked into Ngatea’s twenty-five, and after some close play Johnson crossed the line and evened the scores. Hill failed to convert. Ngatea 6, Turua G. Play remained in midfield until the call of tinte. The scores being equal, it was decided to continue for another twenty minutes. Ngatea won the toss and elected to play for the first ten minutes into the wind. Turua found the line in Ngatea’s quarter with the kick-off, bUv the ball was returned to midfield. Turua worked back, but a mark checked. The kick was returned, a force resulting. Particularly fast open play ranged up and down in the neutral zone, but neither side could hold the advantage. After changing ends there was more open play in midfield, Ngatea gaining' ground by using weight in the line play and in the scrummages, and holding play near Turua’s twenty-five flag. For a knock-on Turua gained a free kick, which sent the ball to halfway, where, play remained until the call of time, the scores being unchanged. . - Mr J. Kidd was referee. TRAVELLING CLUB TEAMS. COROMANDEL AND TAPU WIN. On Saturday an East Club team, comprising junior and senior playere, journeyed to Coromandel and suffered defeat by 18 points to 14. The players returned to Paeroa last nigh r , after spending an enjoyable week-end at Coromandel, and speak in glowing terms of the hospitality accorded them by the people of Coromandel. The West Club also sent a mixed senior and junior team to Tapu on Saturday, the visitors being beaten by 14 points to 0.
