DRUIDS’ SOCIAL
LAST OF A SERIES. The series of social evenings organised by the local members of the U.A.O.D. were brought to a conclusion on Thursday evening with an enjoyable dance and euchre tournament in the Gaiety Theatre and Soldiers’ Club, adjoining. The ballroom was tastefully decorated with greenery and bunting, and round the front of the dress-circle were the letters U.A.0.D., prominently displayed. The floor was comfortably filled, and the members of the lodge were distinguishable by the regalia worn. Delightful music for dancing was supplied by a Waihi orchestra, and extras were contributed by Mrs Spencer and Misses I. Smith and W. Campbell. Mr R. Turner as M.C. was very attentive to hio duties. . - ; The chief, attraction of the evening was the euchre tournament, for which handsome prizes were provided. Mr W. Turner had charge of this department, and his task was no light one when it is considered that 120 players took part. Shortly before midnight Mr J. T. Brown presented the prizes, won as follows : Progressive games, points prizes: La lies, Mrs L. Gibb, 1; Mrs C. A. Hoare, 2. Men. L. Gibb. 1; T. H. Hale, 2. Night tournament: Ladies, Mrs W. Simpson, 1 ; Miss Verran, 2; Miss Hart, 3. Men, McNeil, 1; E. Edwards,2 ; T. Richards, 3. The secretary, Mr W. Turner, and his committee are to be congratulated on their oragnfeing abilities, and regret ,was freely expressed that the Druids’ social evenings had befell brought to a conclusion for this year.
