PAEROA CRICKET CLUB.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Paeroa Cricket Club was held on Wednesday evening, Mr J. W. Walmsley presiding over an attendance of some fifteen members and supporters. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. Tiic fallowing annual report waw read by the secretary, Mr C. H, Haliday, and adopted : “The Club did not have such a successful year as the previous one. Ten matches were played, ofl which four were won and six lost, although several of the latter were lost by one or two runs only. The main reason for this was undoubtedly the apathy (shown by members towards practice at the nets, and incidentally to the lack of ne,w members, who might have assisted us as has been done in past years. Your Committee hopes that the above matters will be remedied during the ensuing season. Batting.—The batting of the Club was not of an extremely high standard, although several good individual scores were made. The best three for the year ' were: Shand, 8.1; Wilkinson, 7.8; and Halliday, 15 2. Bowling.—The bowling of the teams was of fairly high standard, as the figures will show. The best three averages were: Edwards, with 61 wickets for 4.1 runs each; Farrow, with 14 wickets for 7.1; and Shand, with 30 wickets for 8.1.
Fielding.—The fielding was in most instances of high order, and to this department of the game, assisted by the good bowling, we can attribute those successes which we had. Rolton played very well behind the wickets. Altogether 52 catches were taken, the two highest individual efforts being > Ven an, 5; and Hal.iday, 9 catches. Finance.—The total receipts for the year amounted to £l4 7s sd, and the expenditure was £l2 8s 3d. New bats and balls were obtained, and the Club will this season require further gear, such as pads, bats, etc. A special meeting was held to,wards the end of June, as the finances of the Club were in a bad position. The position was that we started the season with a debit of £7 10s, and to clear this a donation was asked from each member. This, with sundry other donations, cleared the debt and left us with a small credit balance. The matter of should be gone into to see if something cannot be done .to obtain further funds for the Club.
General. —The thanks of the Club are due to'our president, who was always to the fore in assisting us; to our vice-presidents, who materially assisted us ; and last, but not least, to our worthy captain, who, both on and off the .field, was highly respected and appreciated by the members of the Club. The thanks of the Club are, due to the “Hauraki Plains Gazette,” which has assisted us in no light manner by publishing our reports, teams, etc. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £1 19s 2d. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION. The annual subscription was fixed at 10s 6d for senior players and 5s for juniors under eighteen years of age. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the selectors to give preference to such players as are financial members when, selecting 1 match eleven. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT.
