HOCKEY.

NGATEA V. WAITAKARURU. LADIES’ GAME DRAWN. A hockey match between the Ngatea and Waitakaruru ladies’ hockey teams was played at Ngatea on Saturday and resulted in a drawn game, one score being secured by each side. The field was very wet, and players were soon drenched, but wet clothing and muddy faces did not mean dampened spirits. Play was fast and willing throughout, and the more the ball went into the pools of water the better they seemed to like it. That was the case with the spectators, if mot with the players. Some of the individual play on both sides was very good, but collectively Waitakaruru had the better team. Better combination and knowledge of the game was shown. Ngatea scored early in the match, but from then on mostly had to defend. Waitaßaruru's goal was registered towards the end of the fiiist half. The players were ; Waitakaruru—Misses Harris, I. Beaver, G. Williams, A. Berney, V. Harris, M. Beaver, T. Preston, MBeaver, U. Bestic, E. Jesen, I. Jesen. Ngatea.—Misses P. Hayward. A. Courtenay, M. Miller, Wade, M. Coutenay, M. Taylor, Costello, E. McDuff, N. Costello, D. Miller, and Mrs Cleaver. Mr N. J. Crabb was referee.
