NGATEA POST OFFICE.
PLANS PREPARED. RESIDENCE INCLUDED IN DESIGN. The plants of the proposed new post office for Ngatea have been received by the local Public Works office. The building, which is of handsome design, provides for a post office and residence combined. The total frontage of the building will be 36ft 6in, with a depth of 72ft. The post office portion, to be placed at one end of the building, will comprise a telephone exchange, mail room, postmaster’s room, posting box, store, and a spacious public lobby. The: adjoining fortion comprises the residence ofl three bedrooms, sitting-room, kitchen, scullery, and the usual conveniences. Further details provide for a door on the left of the private letter-box lobby at the front of the building to give admittance to the public office, in which will be placed a writing desk and a public counter 12ft long, and also a telephone call room. The mail-room is to be 25ft by 25ft, and will have an entrance from the drive at the side of the, building. The postmaster’s room, at the rear of the public office, will be 12'%ft by and the telephone exchange, at the rear of th.e mail-room, will be by Electric light will be installed throughout the office and residence. At the rear of the building across the present blind creek will be the wash-house, etc., linesman’s shed, motor garage, tynd a concrete petrol store. The specifications provide that the building must be completed within five months of the acceptance of the tender. When completed, the building should be of ample size to accommodate thei rapidly increasing volume of business for many years to come.
