VALEDICTORY.
A successful “smoker” was held in the Netherton Hall on Friday evening last, the guest of the evening being Mr George Williams, who for the past two years has been manager of the Netherton cheese factory, and who is now leaving the district owing to the factory being closed this season. Mr J. A. Reid presided over a large gathering of frineds and suppliers, and during the evening he presented Mr Williams with a case of pipes on behalf of the gathering as a slight token of the esteem in which he was held in the district. In a neat speech Mr Reid congratulated the recipient on the good work he had done whilst in Netherton, and referred to the record put up by the cheese factory in the low cost of manufacture under the capable managership of Mr Williams. Eulogistic reference was also made ,to the willing and practical help accorded to the suppliers at all times by Mr Williams, and hearty good wishes were expressed for his future welfare and success. A lengthy toast-list was honoured, and an enjoyable musical programme was submitted.
