CONTROL BY WAIHI BOROUGH. COUKfI CONDITIONS AGREED TO. In connection with a request -from the Waihi Borough Council that the county council should agree to the inclusion in the borough area of that portion of the Waihi Beach Reserve which is et present under the jurisdiction of the county council, as a result of a conference between the two local bodies the Ohinemuri County Council agreed to hand over the area on the following conditions: “(1) That the Borough Council ■ shall pay all legal and legislative expanses. (2) That the Borough Coun>cil accept the offer made to it, and mow under consideration, to metal the road from Tauranga Road to Munroe’s bridge. (3) That the Borough Council undertakes to spend the balance of its estimates, £2OO, on metalling from Woolford’s to McCalls this year. (4) That the arrangement at present in force between the Borough Council and the County Council with reference to maintenance of Beach Road continue in force unless varied by the consent of both parties thereto. (5) TLat the Tauranga County Council be asked to agree to the inclusion in the Ohinemuri County of property abutting on Beach Road.” In submitting the conditions the following letter was sent by the county clerk to the Waihi Borough Council: "I am also instructed to emphasise the fret that this council is unanimously of the opinion that a toll-gate ■should be erected on this road at, or
near, Hedge’s Bend, and in view of its consent to the inclusion of the Beach Reseive in the borough area on the specified conditions the council would urge upon the Borough Council to use every endeavour to obtain the necessary consent to the erection of the toll-gate. Should the consent be obtained it is to be understood that the gate will be erected and maintained by tilt borough, and all tolls, after payment of expenses, to be expended on the road. This expenditure would not, of course, be subject to the ten per cent, contribution by the county provided for in the upkeep of the road. My council trusts that the condition- named will be acceptable to your council, and I shall be glad if you will advise me of the result ?s soon as you can after the matter has been decided upon.” At yesterday’s meeting of the Coun-. ty Council a notification was received from tbe Waihi Borough Council stating that the borough agreed to the terms set out for the inclusion of the county’s portion of the Beach Reserve in the Borough of Waihi. Tt was-also stated that arrangements had been made to carry out the first portion of metalling from Tauranga Road to Munroe’s bridge.
