MOTOR VEHICLES BILL.
matter before council. A COMMITTEE 20 REPORT. ' At the Ohinemuri County Council meeting yesterday a letter was received from the Minister for Internal Affairs; forwarding a copy of the Vehicles Bill, 1924. ” The Auckland City .Council also forwarded a copy of the minutes of the conference held in Auckland on ugust 27, for the purpose of considering the Bill , The chairman reported having represented the council; at the conference in Auckland. He was of the opinion that good might come of the conference, but it was evident that the boroughs had a preponderance of power. The opinion of the counties and boroughs were very conflicting. In his opinion the Mayor of Auckland had made a good endeavour to draw up a comprehensive petition for presentation to Parliament. It would be wise to appoint a committee to go into the matter and t make recommendations to be forwarded to the Counties’ Association executive. - Or. H. M. Corbett said that, so far a<> he could judge, the conference was out to benefit the main highways at the expense of the counties. He confended that the subsidiary roads had to bear the major portion of the local motor traffic. He did not see.how the fees collected could be fairly distributed under the proposed scheme. The following were appointed a committee to go into the matter and report direct to the Counties’ Association : The chairman and Crs. Johnstone and Morrison.
