FOOTBALL.

— PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union met last evening, there being present: Messrs P. E. Brcnan (chairman), H. M. Shand, W. Pennell, T. Welch, C. Potter, C. T. Mettam, F. Clack, and C. H. Butcher (secretary). A letter was received from the Physical Training Club, Thames, asking if a third-grade team could be sent to Thames on August 30. It was decided that this could not be arranged, but an endeavour would be made to send a team early next season. Mr C. T. Mettam was appointed manager of the representative team to play Piako at Paeroa on Saturday next. ’ The matter of winding up the junior club competition was discussed at length, and eventually it wae decided that West play Karangahake at Karangahake and East play Netherton at Paeroa on September 6, and the team leading hi points after these matches be declared the winner of the competition. Mr C. Potter disagreed with the decision and verbally tendered his resignation. The third-grade match on Saturday will be between East and West, and will commence at 1.30 p.m. sharp. MEETING OF PLAINS UNION. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr J. Costello presiding over the following delegates: K Berteiseri, J. T. Davidson, P. Leonard, W. M. Innes, H. Green, G. Porteoms, F. Walli... and J. N. Anderson (lion, secretary). In regard to the two players ordered off the field on the previous Saturday, it was decided to take no further action. The matter of regrading playersfrom senior to junior was discussed at great length, and finally it was decided that no regrading be done so late in the season. As a curtain-raiser•' to the final match of the Poland Memorial Cup competition on Saturday next it was decided that a match be played between the Turua and Patetonga juniors or, if not possible, between the Turua and Ngatea juniors. Mr Davidson brought up the matter of the seats belonging to the Ngatea Public Hall being left on the football field, and asked that steps be taken to see that this did not occur again. It was decided that all members* of the union be held responsible. Tn view of the depleted state of the union’s funds the question of financing the Birch Cup match at Thames on Saturday fortnight received much discussion. It was suggested that the clubs provide the, necessary money, and that.it be refunded when possible, but a motion to that effect was defeated and it was decided that all the members of the union make themselves responsible, provided that a firstclass team can be obtained to travel. The money would be refunded when available. The president, secretary, and Mr Leonard were appointed a committee to deal with the Birch Cup match.. The selectors submitted the following team for the match on Saturday next: Full-back,'W. Molloy; three-quar-ters. C. Molloy, F. Nicoll, J. Adlum.; five-eighths, A. Otter, B. Nolan ; halfback, E. Masters; rover, L. Ryan; forwards, Cowdrey, K. Fox, C. Clark, B Wallis, Cowdrey, L. Lipscombe, C. Ellis. Emergencies : W. O’Neil, Hlliit (forwards) ; E. Costello, Stewart (backs). REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. Tire weekly meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees’ Association was held at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over an attendance of nine.The referees’ reports were read and . adopted. The selection committee submitted for the representative match with Waihi on Saturday next the name of Mr J. N. Anderson, and for the cur-tain-raiser Mr J. Kidd, and it was agreed that these be submitted to the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union. POLAND CUP COMPETITION. * WAIHI TEAM FOR SATURDAY. On Saturday next Waihi will play Plains at Ngatea. The match will be the final game in the Cup series, each side having scored eight points. Waihi ’Will be represented by the following: Full-back, Delamore; three-quar-ters, Price, McLeay, McDermott; fiveeighths, Mooney, Ryan; half-back, Worthington ; rover Heath ; forwards, Mannix Speak,. Peacock, Talbot, Agnew, Thomas, Ashby. JUNIORS AT WAIHI. THE PAEROA TEAM. A return match between the Paeroa and Waihi Junior representatives will be played at Waihi on Saturday, the following being selected to represent Paeroa: Full-back, McKenna; three-quar-ters, Kerr, Mead, Wells ; five-eighths, Moore Swann ; half-back, Hardman ; rover, Treaupr; frowards, McKee, J. Neil, R. Shaw, R. Smith, Denton, L. Nield, Williams. Emergencies : Rackham, King (backs) ; V. Smith, McLeod, Southby (forwards). This game is to commence early, and players are requestde to meet at Raffill’s at 12.30 p.m. sharp.
