WEDDING BELLS.
TIOPIRA—WILKINSON. A charming wedding of more than usual interest took place at the Meeting House at Tirohia on Tuesday. August 19, 1924, when Violet Moeroa Wilkinson, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Te Paora. Wilkinson, was married to Robert Davis Tiopira, the son of Mr and Mrs Davis Tiopira, of Hokianga. The ceremony was performed by the Rev.. McD. Wharehuia, of Te Kuiti, assisted by the Rev. Eruera Leaf, of Thames.
The bride, who was given away by her brother, wore a lovely dress of cream crepe de chine handsomely embroidered with diamonte and pearls, with orthodox wedding veil and a coronet of orange blossoms. The train worn from her shoulders was supple satin, and was carried by her young brother Charles Te Kiwi Wilkinson, the train-bearer. The bride carried a beautiful bouquet of cream anemoniejs arranged with maiden-hair fern, and was attended by her bridesmaid, Miss Sophie Grylls, who wore a dainty drees of blue charmeuse trimmed with gold and blue bands. The two flower girls were Eunice Cribb, cousin ,and Dina Wilkinson, sister, .to the bride, who wore dresses of cream net edged with purple, with coronets of daisies on their heads, and carried bouquets of violets to correspond with the name of the bride. After the ceremony an adjournment was made to the residence of Mr and Mrs Wilkinson, who with generous hospitality had provided a sumptuous feast for the large number of Maori and Pakeha friends who had come to do honour to the bride, and also to her brother, who had come of age on that day and Was celebrating the event. A large marquee had been. provided in case of rain, but many preferred the green grass and open air of the beautiful sunshiny day. The splendid three-tier wedding cake looked more than tempting, as did also the large birthday cake provided for the brother. When full justice had been done to the abundance of good things provided the Rev. F. B. Dobson proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom which was drunk to musical honours, and Mr Mace, of Mangaiti, paid a high tribute of praise to the kind hospitality of Mr and Mis Wilkinson. At the korero later in the day speeches of good cheer, goodwill, and good advice were made by the officiating clergymen, the Revs. Wharehuia and Leaf. Before leaving all admired the handsome new bungalow that is being built for the happy couple near the parents’ residence at Tirohia. McINTYRE—McDUFF. A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at the residence of the bride's parents, Orchard East Road, Ngatea, on Wednesday afternoon, Miss Reta Avelia McDuff, third daughter of Mr and Mrs W. McDuff, and Mr Reginald Mclntyre, of Kiwitahi, being the contracting parties. The Rev. D. C. Stewart officiated, and about forty relatives were present. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of cream morocain with lemon trimmings and a bridal veil caught around with orange blossom. She was attended by her three sisters. Miss Edna McDuff, the bridesmaid, wore a frock pf apricot silk with lace trimmings, and the little flower girls, Lorna and Joan, were gowned in white and blue organdie muslin, respectively, and carried baskets of violets and friesias. Mr B. Harrison, cousin of the bride, was best man. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a handsome toilet set, to the bridesmaid a gold bangle, and to the flower girls a sil-ver-mounted scent, bottle and a gold brooch, respectively. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at a wedding breakfast, the usual toasts being honoured. The happy couple left during the afternoon for Wellington, and will later proceed to Christchurch. In the evening the friends pf Mr and Mrs MoDuff were their guests at a very enjoyable dance In the Ngatea Hall.
