FOUND UNCONSCIOUS.
MAN LYING ON ROADSIDE. CONVEYED TO HOSPITAL. Shortly after nine o’clock yesterday morning Mr R. McClinchy was. driving a car along the Waihi road, and when near the intersection of Russell street he noticed a man lying in some mud on the side of the road. An examination disclosed that the man was alive, although unconscious. Constable McClinchy and Dr. Little were quickly on the spot, and on the recommendation of the latter the unfortunate man was taken to the Waihi Hospital, suffering, it is believed, from a hemorrhage. On inquiries being made yesterday afternoon it was'learned that the man was known as Gus. Sheehan, believed to be single, and aged about 50 years. It appears that he arrived in Paeroa towards the end of last week and -was given work by Mr W. A. Curtis on the new post office site. Sheehan stated to Mr Curtis that he had come from the East Coast, and had recently been in hospital. Sheehan was given light work for a couple of days, and he turned up to work yesterday morning and was sent down to the stop-bank near the Criterion Hotel to assist in tipping the soil from the drays, and apparently left the job without advising anyone. When picked Up a shovel, the property of Mr Curtis, was found near him. On inquiry from the Waihi Hospital this morning it was learned that Sheehan had spent a comfortable night and showed much improvement.
