MINING OPERATIONS.

ARGO CONCENTRATES COMPANY. TREATMENT OF TAILINGS. At the last (sitting ofi the Waihi Warden’s Court an application was granted by the Warden for the Argo special river claim, which comprises an area of the Ohinemuri riverbed, extending over nearly two miles from the S-iverton dam to the Waihi G.M. Company’s masonery dam. It was stated by Mr J. B. Beeche, solicitor for the applicant, Mr W. K. Berry, of Auckland, that a company was being formed in Auckland to work the properly, and that the capital would probably be fiiUy subscribed. The company has now been registered under the name of the Argo Concentrates, Ltd., the objects as set out in the memorandum of association being mining and quarrying. The capital of the company is £12,000, and the shareholders are Messrs W. H. Gordon, R. T. Sando, W. F. Berry, H. E. Dowdy, A. Aitken, W. E. Browne, and R H. Horsley. When the application for the claim was before the Warden’s Court Mr Beeche explained that the intention of the company was to treat the tailings in the bed and banks of the river by a new and economical process, which made it possible to deal with large quantities of tailing at comparatively small cost. It was stated that a plant, similar to that to be used on the claim, had recently been tried at Karangahakc with very marked success.

The necessary plant is being manufactured in Australia for the new company, arid it is expected that work will be commenced on the claim within three or four months. While the work to be undertaken may not be carried out on a large scale, it is distinctly encouraging to note that investors are again turning their attention to mining propositions.
