BAND OF HOPE.
BKnNC’H formed in paeroa. Realising the need for some kind of an ui denominational social institution in Paeroa, the Revs. Jefferson, Dobson, and Morgan, together with other local church workers, have taken the matter up, and on Monday evening last the Centenary Hall was well filled when Miss Burls, Australasian organiser for the Band of Hope Union delivered a lecture, accompanied by lantern slideis, dealing with the a 111 s and objects of the Union. His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) presided. At the conclusion of the lecture it was unanimously decided to form a branch in Paeroa, and about seventylive members werd duly enrolled. Dm ng the evening an enjoyable musical and elocutionary programme was submitted, the recitations of some of the younger children receiving ' well-meritd applause. The Band of Hope is entirely undenoniin itional. and the prospects fol the success of. the newly-formed local branch appears to be assured, judging by the entliusiatsm displayed on Mon-. day“evening.
