NETHERTON RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Netherton Rate payers’ Association was held in the hall on Saturday evening, the president, Mr T. Vowles, presiding over Messrs H. Hare, C. Potter, P. Harold, R, H. Heappey, J. A. Reid, W. Morrison, R. Locke, and C. Stembridge, hon. secretary. Mr J. Higgins, county engineer, wrote as follows : "Having definitely resigned by position as engineer to the Hauraki Plains County Council I desire to express sincere thanks for the generous support extended to me both by your association and your representative on the council since the time 1 took office. I would like to say that it was a great consolation to me to feel that I held the good wishes of the Netherton ratepayers during a very trying period, in which practically the whole of the initial works of various kinds had io be undertaken in order to pave the way for future developments. In regard to my decision to leave the council, I wish to assure you that 1 fully appreciate the very high compliment paid me by your association in asking me to reconsider my resignation, and it wavs with deep regret that I fonud it inrpossible for me to retain the position. In conclusion, I might add that 1 shall always feel keenly interested in the welfare of Netherton, and I sincerely hope that with the improved facilities for obtainii* metal your roads will in a short time compare favourably with the leading highways in the Dominion. I again thank you for the unanimous vote of confidence passed at your meeting.” On the motion of Mr Reid, seconded by Mr Harold, it was decided to reply in a suitable manner. RIDING ROADS. The question of a mcanjs of bettering the roads of the district was again brought up, and it was suggested that the County Council be asked to take a poll of the ratepayers of the whole riding to raise a loan to metal all the roads as outlined by the county engineer recently. On the position with regard to the Awaiti roads being pointed out it was decided to send a letter to the council commending it on its action in appointing a deputation to, among other things, approach the Ministers concerning the completion of the Awaiti roads.
The opinion was expressed that the riding roads scheme was desirable, but until the Government's programme was known it would be bf little -use going ahead.
It was decided to call a meeting of tlm ratepayers of the whole riding upon the return of the deputation from Wellington to discuss a riding roads loan proposition. Refreshments would be provided.
