STUD JERSEYS.
PUBCHASE BY MR. M. CRIMMINS. SEVERAL HIGH-CLASS ANIMALS. At the recent sale of pedigree Jeiseys on account of Mr C. G. C. Dernier, of Feilding, it was evident that dairymen are at last awakened to the necessity of heading their herds with pedigree sires from proven butter-fat-producing strains. At the sale the top price of 162 guineas was paid by Mr Maurice Crimmins, Waikino, for a 7-months-old bull calf out pf Waipiko Jolly, which produced 610.41 b of bu‘ter-fat as a junior 2-year-old and won second prize in the Hawera £5OO C.O.R. Stakes out of 190 competitors, She was 361 b of butter-fat ahead of the winner, which beat her by threequarters of a point. Mr Crimmins’ new bull has been registered and named Waipiko Jollification. his sire being Waipiko Dionello, who was by Eminent Fontaine (leading sire of New Zealand, and imported from America) from Lenora, who produced 6851 b of fot from three quarters. Waipiko Jolly’s sire is Majesty’s Eminent, who was by Majesty Fox (late leading Jersey sire in New Zealand) out of Eminent Maggie. who produced 5721 b of fat at two years old and was a silver medal winner. Eminent Maggie is the dam of Eminent V.C., who was exported to Australia, where, at two and three years old, he won the reserve championship at the Melbourne Royal Show, and further championships were credited to him later on.
Majesty’s Eminent’s first daughter, Waipiko Jolly, produced 6101 b of fat as a 2-year-old. The dam of Waipiko Jolly is Joletta, who gave 3131 b ot fat in 191 days, and is expected to put up a big record when next put on test. Joletta is by the imported bull V.C., who has seven tested daughters, three of which are over 7001 b of fat. The dam p£ Joletta is Waipiko Joyful, sold for 120 guineas, and a full sister to Jov, which gave 5661 b of fat at four years old. Mr Crimmins has also purchased a direct daughter of Majesty Fox from Primrose 33rd. This cow's full brother, Golden Fox IL, has six tested daughters averaging 5691 b of fat. A further purchase was made oy Mr Ctimmins of a female by Eminent Fontain from Waipiko Gytha, which i,s a ful: sister to Waipiko Gerda, which produced 7101 b of fat at three years old. With these animals it will be seen that Mr Crimmins has obtained some of the greatest butter-fat producers and sires in the Dominion, and he is to be congratulated on his enterprise and ci urage, and deserves every success in the future. Mr Crimmins is vice-president of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club, and bis recent purchases should go a long way toward? encouraging and fostering the breed in this district.
