FOOTBALL.

—♦ THE MATCH at WAIHI. THAMES VALLEY V. WAIKATO. There should be a large gathering of Rugby football enthusiasts on the Waihi Recreation Reserve to witness the representative match, Thames Valley v. Waikato, which is timed to commence at 2.45 o’clock to-morrow. It is understood that the visiting combination will be a strong one, with a good offensive back division and a sound set of forwards, and, according to the opinion of the majority of local followers of the game, they will go out favourites on the day. The Thames Valley team has been subjected to some adverse criticism, and it is contended that a stronger side might have been chosen, but, on the whole, the selectors appear to have done their work well, and the side should put up a good showing. Its main weakness, as is usually the case with teams selected over a wide playing area and not brought together for practice, is likely to be a lack of combination, but individually the players are not a bad lot. In order that visitors from Paeroa, Te Arolia,, and other parts may witness the finish of the match the usual 4.45 P.m. train outward from Waihi will be delayed until 5 o’clock. The big event will be preceded by a match between the Paeroa and Waihi primary schools’ representatives, the curtain-raiser starting at 1.30 p.m. THIRD-GRADE MATCH. The attention of local third-grade footballers is drawn to the fact that the East v. School match is postponed and West v. East .substituted. POSITIONS OF TEAMS.
