THE CLUB COMPETITION. WEST V. NETHERTON. ideal weather prevailed tor the west v. Aciherlou match at ixeihertou. i'liere was a lair attendance of spectators, amongst them being several of the fair sex who availed themselves pl tlie line day and were very enthusiastic in barracking for their Home team. The roadway adjoining the playing ground pi esenled quite a spectacle for Netherton, twelve cars being lined up. The junior game on No 2 ground attracted a little suppoit, but the chief interest was centred on tite senior fixture. The teams were as follows; West,—W. Taylor, L. Shaw, W. Whelan, E, Clarke, 1. Poland, Southgate, C. Poland, J. Crosby, Piereie, G. Pennell, H. Shaw, Wannicott, Jennings, V. Carrick, Craig. Netherton. —Hopping, C. McNeil, U’Donnell, J. Maloney, Potter, Pullar, L. Rice, T. Johnson, P. Fisher, B, Fishei, B. Fisher, E. Johnson, P. Morrison, R. Morrison, W. Richmond. West kicked off with the wind to McNeil, who returned to West's twenty-live. Tight play ensued for some time, until West forwards, headed by Jennings, started a rush which ended in Netherton forcing. From the drop-out the ball went to C. Poland, who returned to L. Rice. The latter punted, and T. Johnson and R. Morrison followed tip and gained control of the ball. Johnson parried on with the ball at his feet for some time, until Morrison picked up and dived over, registering the first points for Netherton. The kick at goal failed. Netlierton 3, West 0. In the second quarter Nether, opened up the game and the pace wos very fast until 1. Poland marked. His kick at goal went just outside the post. From tlie drop-out Taylor took the ball and returned to Rice, who started a nice passing bout which resulted in Maloney getting possession. He neatly kicked over .the full-back and regained possession, scoring near the posts. P. Morrison failed to convert. Netherton 6, West 0. West for the most part remained on the defence until half-time.

On resuming play was very fast and willing. West essayed a forward rush, headed by H. Shaw, who dribbled the bail until Wannicott took possession and diver over the line. 1. Poland's liick iiit tlie bar and rebounded into tlie field of play. Netherton 6, West 3. From tlie kick-out Netherton pressed very hard until off-side play relieved for West. Netherton immediately resumed the attack, and after some tight play in West’s quarter Rice sent out to Potter,-who scored a nice try. L. Rice failed with the kick. Netherton 9, West 3. Jn the final round West kept Netherton very busy for a time, after which the ball was sent, up and down the field several times until McNeil had an unsuccessful drop-kick at goal an« West forced. From the drop-out West attacked, and after several scrums in Netherton’s territory the ball went out near the defenders' twenty-five flag, the game ending, Netherton 9, West 3. Mr. E. Smith was referee. For Netherton P. Fisher, T. Johnson, and R. Morrison were the pick of the forwards, and McNeil, Maloney, and Rice were prominent in the baefcs. For West Wannicott, Jennings, and Shaw led the forwards, with C. Poland Whelan, and Southgate showing tri in the backs. Taylor was a failure as full-back. THE JUNIORS. The junior game, played ojn the Netheiton No. 2 ground, was a good exhibition of football, although West had far far the better of the game. Play was fast, anad West finally won by six points to nil, tries being scored by Verran and Shaw. Mr B, Johnson was referee. POLAND CUP COMPETITION. PAEROA TEAM FOR SATURDAY'. Brash, as early as possible. PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Tlie committee of tlie Paeroa RtUgby Union met last evening, Mr P. EBrenan presiding over Messrs C. H. Potter, W. Walsh, C. T. Mettani, H. M. Shand, W. Pennell, and F. Clajrke. REGISTRATIONS. Tlie following registrations were accepted : Netherton seniors, F. T. V. Johnson and G. Johnson ; West juniors, T. Jenkins, A. Armour, H. Armour, and G. Hagan ; Karangahttke, J. Carlton ; School third-grade, S. JMcDougall and R. Saunders. The application by East to have Shergold registered was held over. SATURDAY'S FIXTURES. Juniors.--Netherton v. East, at Paeroa ; West v. Suburbs, at Hikutaia. Thiid-grade.—-West v. combined Easat and School team. The third-grade match will start at 2 p.m., and the junior matches at 3 P.m. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. Mr Pennell was appointed manager of the Paeroa team to meet the Hauraki Plains representatives in the Frank Poland Memorial Cup competition at Ngatea on Saturday. Mr Shand intimated that Mr Medjhnrst was prepared to convey players to Ngatea for 10s each. The travelling arrangements were

left in the hands of the manager and secretary. VACANCY ON COMMITTEE. The chairman called for nominations to fill the vacancy on the committee caused by Mr J. Johnson's forfeiture through non-attendanace. Messrs R. H. Heappey and F. G. Otter were proposed, and on a ballot r being taken the latter was elected to the position. NEW REREREES. Last Saturday Messrs W. Bramble and F T. V. Johnson refereed games under the jurisdiction of the union and gave satisfaction. As both men intimated that they were willing to undertake the duty of refereeing, it was decided to forward their names on to the Referees' Association. GATE MONEY. The taking at Paeroa on Saturday last amounted to £4 11s 6d, and at Netherton to £1 15s 3d. Mr Clarke was deputed to attend to the Karangahakc gate receipts. FUTURE MATCHES. It was decided that the senior matches for July 12 would be East v, West, at Paeroa, and Suburbs v. Netherton, at Hikutaia; the games after that date to be arranged lateral
