DISTRICT NEWS.
TATETONGA, SMOKE CONCERT. The smoke concert given in honour of Mr N. Wallaoe on the eve of liis departure for the Old County was well attended. A presentation of ;> set of pipes was made to him by Mr J. F. Mayn, who, on behalf of the settlers, wished the guest bon voyage, and lamented the fact that Patetonga was losing, even for a while, one of its most prominent, popular, and goahead settlers. Songs were given bv Messrs D. Pike, W. Cotton, J. Reid, T. Burgess, J. Caldwell, T. Tuhoe, and W. Hughes, who gave him a send-oif I i Maori fashion. KEREPEEin. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Kerepeehi School Committee met on Thursday evening last, there being present: Messrs H. Hoff (chairman), R, Carr, W. Herkt, L. A- W. Bagnall, W. Thompson (secretary), and J. Twist (headmaster). Mr Twist reported that there were about 200 books in the school library, and a sum of money in hand with which more books could be purchased. It nad been suggested that for the purpose of reference books a set of the "Children’s Encyclopaedia" and the "Children’,s Treasure House" be obtained. The secretary was instructed to ascertain if the inspector of schools approved of these books. It was decided to again write to the Education Board concerning the two acres of land for an addition to the school ground. The question of installing eltectricity in the school and school house was discussed, and it was decided to ask tlie board to have it installed in the school house. Inquiries where to be made i’ll regard to the cost of the school installation. The matter of certain work at the school, in tlie school grounds, and at the school house was left in the hands of the chairman.
