The N.Z. Gazette states that a first dividend of 2s 6d in the £ in the estate of H. A. Marks, formerly of Paeroa, has been declared. During tiie month of May 37 cases of explosives were issued from the local magazine and 100 cases received. The tees totalled £1 0s 9d for the month. It was reported at tiie Ohinemuri County Council meeting yesterday that 70 cows, 20 steers and heifers, 134 sheep, 8 lambs, 6 calves, and 26 pigs had been slaughtered at the local abattoirs during the month of May. The fee,s amounted to £55 14s 2d. In the butter classes at tiie.Auckland Exhibition the Ngatea factory was successfu lin 'winning the championship of the Auckland province (box of butter to be suitable for export and manufactured under the most favourable conditions), together with the Frank M. Wtastone Challenge Cup, gaining 94% points in the class. On Sunday afternoon the funeral of the late Mr W. Patolty took place at Patetonga. Di spite of the inclement weather over a hundred settlers attended the burial service, which was conducted by the Rev. W. Wallace. Mr Patoky was an especially well liked man, and his death means a district and decided loss to the community. The little folk, too, which whom he was much in sympathy, will miss him. At yesterday’s meeting of the Oliinienmri County Council the engineer reported that the stone-crusher had arrived at tiie Puke, and it was intended to have it assembled and brought to the county yard at an early date. As soon as the governors arrived from England for the road roller the whole plant would be put in operation at Komata Creek, where gravel would be crushed sufficient to complete the metalling of Hubbard's Road. At a meeting of the Patetonga Ratepayers’ and Settlers’ Association held last week a resolution was passed expressing the association’s confidence in the abilities of Mr J. Higgins, county engineer, and satisfaction in the manner in which he has carried out his duties. General regret was expressed that the county will shortly be losing the services of such an efficient servant. A very enjoyable dance, organised by the East Football Club, was held in tiie Soldiers’ Club last night. There was a large attendance, fully representative of the football clubs in the district. Mr L. Smith in the capacity of M.C. was most attentive to his duties. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr F. Clarke, and extras were contributed by Misses I. Smith, E. Moore, and Mr R. Hodson. Mesdames G. H. Taylor, W. Smith, and Miss M. Treanor had charge of the delicious supper, which was provided by the lady supporters of the club. The hall was attractively decorated with yellow and black streamers (the club’s colours) and greenery.
