PLAINS RUGBY UNIDN. . — A MEETING OF COMMMITTEE. The fortnighty’ meeting of the committee of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was lield at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr J. Costello presiding over ' Messrs G. Porteous, J. H. Nicholson, W. Thompson, M. Leonard, and J. N. Anderson (secretary). FINANCE. The secretary reported that the experses of the match at Thames amounted to £ll ss. For the Piako match at Ngatea the expenses were £< 2s 9d and the gate receipts £2O-odd. Outstanding accounts totalling £l5 5,s 9d were passed for payment, leaving a credit balance of £l5 9s 7d. gj BIRCH CUP MATCH. The secretary reported that the challenge for the Birch Cup had been too late, but the Thames union had noticed in the Press that the union had decided to challenge, so had accepted the late entry. The matter of the interference with club matches by representative was discussed at length, but owing to the small attendance the matter was held over. It was suggested that next year either the union should drop oui of the Poland Cup competition or not play any matches with Thames.PICTURE BENEFIT. Mr H. A. Hamilton wrote offering to give a picture entertainment in Ngatea on Tuesday, June 24, the whole of the proceeds to go to the union. The offer was gratefully accepted. APPRECIATION. The Piako Rugby Union wrote stating that the generous manner in which their representatives were catered for during their visit to the Plains was greatly appreciated. The manager and players spoke highly of tiie treatment accorded them, and wished to extend special thanks to the ladies’ committee. INTER-UNION MATCHES. TEAMS FOR NEXT SATURDAY. Next Saturday the Frank Poland Memorial Cup competitions between the unions comprising .the Thames Valley Rugby Union will be continued. The following teams have been selected :— PAEROA.
