THAMES HOSPITAL

MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the ; Thames Hospital Board was held on • Monday last, Mr W. E. Hale (chair- ' man), presiding over Messrs J. W. • Danby, G. Death, W. J. Hall, C. Keni nedy, H. E. Berney, J. McKay, E. N. • iMiller and G. Tongc (secretary). , MATERNITY ANNEX. The board’s architect reported that 1 the maternity annex would be completed on June 1. 1 -The chairman reported that three ’ patients were in the annex at the ’ present time. However, a little fur--1 nishing still had to come to hand. It might be possible to get His Excellency the Governor-General to formally open the annex at 3.30 p.m. on Friday next. The committee set up to deal with the entertainment of the GovernorGeneral had suggested that he inspect the hospital after opening the annex. ’ It was decided to leave the matter ! in the hands of the local committee. 1 ' STAFF MATTERS. Nurse M. Temple wrote resigning 1 her position as probationer at the hospital as it was necessary for her ’ to go home to look after her people. ’ The resignation was accepted. 1 FEEBLE-MINDED PERSONS. The Director of Education wrote , seeking confidential information in regard to the number of feeble-minded persons in the district—referred to the secretary. CHARITABLE AID. ' The hon- secretary of the Hauraki Ladies Benevolent Society wrote asking for a cheque for £ls.—Granted. TUBERCULIN TEST. The inspector of stock wrote stating that another of the cows from the homes had been submitted to the tuberculin test and had passed. The chairman said that this was the last cow that had been purchased. It was satisfactory to know that all the milk supplied to the hospital was pure. Very few hospitals had such a record. THE KEREPEEHI SITU Mr W. Booth, secretary of the Kerepeehi Hospital Committee, wrote asking for certain information in regard to the Kerepeehi hospital site. The chairman stated that the members of Parliament for Thames and Ohinemuri had been asked to look into the matter, but so far had not reported to the board. It was decided to again communicate with the members on the matter. HOSPITAL REPORTS. The resident surgeon, Dr. D. A. Bathgate, reported that during the month 38 males and 29 females had been admitted. Two males had died, and 30 males and 32 females had been discharges, leaving 28 males.and 14 females in the institution. Twenty out-patients had been treated, 149 attendances given, and 36 operations performed. Four cases of diphtheria had been admitted during the month. The maternity annex had had to be opened on the 31st to receive a patient.—Adopted. The matron reported at length on staff and gneeral matters, and the report was adopted. The hospital visiting committee reported at length on general matters in connection with the institution, and enumerated a long list of small items of repairs to bring the hospital into an efficient and satisfactory position. Mr Miller said that the list seemed a long one, but the items were all small and were urgently required. The question was one of finance. It was decided to adopt the report and to leave the repairs and replacements in the hands of the local committee, with power to act. It was decided to install a telephone at the maternity annex and connect the two institution immediately with electric bells; also to employ a woman for a week or ten days to do sewing. The engineer reported on the running repairs in his department. The. coal consumption for the month had been 33 tons—Received. DISTRICT HOMES. The superintendent of the District Homes reported that two men had been admitted during the month and one woman was discharged, leaving 18 men and 5 women in the homes. The conduct of the inmates had been very good, and everything in connection with the homes was satisfactory. There was ample feed for the stock. Mr Hall reported that Mr Berney and he had visited the homes and found everything satisfactory, except that during the mouth the Tararu Creek had overflowed on three occasions and serious damage had resulted. Tiie reports were adopted and the requisitions granted. The matter of the overflow of the creek was deferred until a reply had been received from the Thames Borough Council. .DISTRICT NURSES. The district health nurse at Paeroa. Miss M. Henry, reported having attended four European and 34 native patients, and having visited 14 native pas and given lectures on infectious diseases. The Patetonga district nurse, Miss McNamara, reported having attended ten different patients during the month. The reports were adopted. The secretary reported on the charitable aid granted during the month. Messrs Kennedy and Death were appointed the hospital visiting committee for the month, and Messrs Berned and Hall the visiting committee for the homes. The board then adjourned to the' hospital to discuss , with the matron the entertainment of the GovernorGeneral.
