Information has been received. by Mr 11. Poland, M.P., that Cabinet has made a contribution of £5O to cover hospital expenses o£ children injured in tiie Waikino school tragedy. To-morrow, being the King’s Birthday all mails usually despatched on Tuesday will be closed at 7 a.m. No deliveries will be made by postmen. Tiie telephone exchange will open from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 7 p,m. to 8 p.m. At the Police Court. Paeroa, on Friday last, before Mr W. Marshall, J.P., a man named William Roycroft was charged with the theft of an overcoat, valued at £5, the property of Mr G. Crosbie, of Thames. Accused was remanded to appear at Thames on June 6 The people of Netherton were too much concerned with their own affairs on Friday last to trouble about local politics. Not one turned up at the meeting called by the Ratepayers’ Association to discuss means of having the ridijiig excluded from the rating area for the proposed Kirikiri bridge. Mr H.
