The Paeroa District High School will reopen on Monday Morning. The local inspector of factories wishes to correct an erro.icous impression that exists in the minds of the storekeepers in Paeroa, in that the tow'n comes under the heading of a seaport town. Every shop in Paeroa i,s subject to the provisions of the Retail Shop Assistants’ new Award, which states that shops must be closed fliot later than 8.30 o’clock on the one late night in the week. Mr b Hovell, of Waihi, has been appointed to referee the Paeroa v. Waihi representative match at the Paeroa Domain to-morrow afternoon. No journal could be more pictorially attractive than this week’s issue of the "N.Z. Sporting and Dramatic Review ” The centre pages arc featured with a striking miscellany of photographs of. prominent people inthe sporting and society world abroad, and. racing enthusiasts will take special note of the scene,s depicting flat racing in England. For football fol-, lowers there is a generous showing of snapshots, including the Probables v. Possibles North Island All Blapk trial match in Wellington. There are many views of local interest, and the miscellaneous section covers .a wide field.
On inquir at the Paeroa railway station this morning it was learmlfl that the work of removing *iip on the line near Kaj’?.llgdiiake was proceeding^. A largo number men are employed, and uoubie shifts have been worked. Throughout the night the work of removing the debris has been carried on with the aid of huge electric lights. It is hoped that a passenger train will be despatched from Paeroa to Waihi this evening.
The Paeroa-Waihi main toad is not yet available for through vehicular traffic. A car service is being maintained to each side of the slip near Karangahake.
His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) has received advice from the district engineer, N.Z. Railways, that instructions have been given that ths present footpath running parallel with the railway line from Puke Road ’.o HIE Street is to be preserved as far a.s practicable until the new footpath has been completed In Taylor’s Avenue,
