LATE MR A. CASSRELS.
HIS WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TRIBUTE At the annual meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce last evening the president (Mr E l . W. Porritt) referred to the death of Mr Asher Cassrcis. He stated that deceased, in his quiet, unostentatious manner, had done a great deal of good for the town and district. For a long time the Chamber had been allowed to carry on its being in a building free of rent o.wing to Mr Cassrels’ generosity. Mr Porritt .said that deceased, together with the late Mr C. F. Mitchell, had been mainly responsible for the diviion of the Thames County and the formation of the Ohinemuri County. Principally through the endeavours of the late Mr Cassrels the Paeroa wqiter supply had been instituted. Mr Cassrels had realised the value of an adequate water supply to a growing town, and mainly by his personal canvass and assurances that the scheme would never be a burden on/the rat - payers the necessary loan money had been raised and the scheme brought to fruition. A small rate had been levied the first year to provide interest ami sinking fund, but since then the water supply had been self-sup-porting. The president leferred to the deceased as a man of clear vision, deep thought, and unbounded faith in the future prosperity of Paeroa. The late Mr Cassrels was a thoroughly good citizen, and one who took a keen 'nterest in the welfare and betterment of the community. On the motion of the president it was decided to accord the Chamber’s Sincere sympathy with the widow and family, and that the appreciation of the work done by the deceased should be recorded.
