FIRE AT HIKUTAIA.

HOUSE AND CONTENTS GOST. On Friday last the five-roomed residence and outbuildings, together with furniture and effects, of Mr Alexander Duncan, of Hikutaia, were completely destroyed by fire. )Il'S Duncan was in the washhouse washing, and having cause to go inside she found the kitchen full of smoke. When she tried to enter she was forced back by the flames that burst out. Unfortunately there were no men about, aiid Mrs Duncan was unable to save any effects, as the fire had such a strong hold tthen discovered. The cause of the fire is unknown. Mr Duiicaii is a very heavy lose-, not having any insurance on the building and only £loo' bn the furniture and £75 on the plhne.
