The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote in reply to a letter from tha clerk stating that it would be in orde>- (or the recreation reserve to be placed under the control ol a local domain board, which may be either the Town Board-(acting as a domain” board) or an- independent board. It was pointed out that the area was shown on the plans of Messrs Bagnall Bros’, subdivision as a recreation reserve, and thereby had become vested in the Crown, and therefore the former owners had no further interest in the area, nor was their consent necessary to any arrangements that might be made for its control. A Gazette notice would have to be issued to give effect to any arrangement that might be approved. He had com-' nrenieated with Wellington, and.would ad-ise the result later. Messrs Bagnall Bros, wrote stating that if the board desired to secure additional land alongside the rteservg their firm could quote a price that should lead to business. It was decided to defer the matter until the letter referred to by the Commissioner of Crown Lands had been received. TOWN HALL. Messrs Bagnall Bros, wrote asking the position in regard to the propose.! town hall. They pointed out that the Victoria Hail was badly in need of repairs, and if nothing was to be done this building would be repaired. The clerk reported that he had in formed Mr Bagnall of the position ti date. To save the expense of a loan pn’l a petition had been circulated and later posted to Mr Bagnall for his signature. He, however, had not received it. and it appeared that the document had been lost and a further one was prepared. It was now complete. The chairman said that the matter should be pushed on as ouickly as possible. Mr Olsen asked where the hall would Oe built. The chairman replied that this had not been considered, as nothing could be done until the money was in sight. The legal steps to life, taken were reported in detail by the clerk. The procedure was similar to that taken by the County Council in connection with the Horahia-Opua special drainage scheme. It was restored that the necessary stuns he taken to advertise the petition and the board’s intention to strike the rate of l%d in the £ required. METAL SUPPLIES. Mr E. Decblc, Gujmmandci, wrote seeking details of the board’s metU' requirements. The clerk reported that he ha 1 sent full particulars a fortnight ago, but had received no reply. Win-tone’s, Ltd.. Auckland, wrote advising that they were not prepare ! to erect a crusher to crush .metal from Coromandel Beach, as they were doubtful whether it would be a paying proposition. In regard tc shingle boulders, they had attempted to run these but found it impracticable, for though there was any amount available. it was found that the percentage of smalls and the’ inaccessibility of the boulders made it too costly. They could supply ordinary road shingle to Turua at 12s 6d per yard, less 5 per cent. The clerk reported having interviewed a representative of Mesters Winstone Bros, and being informed that that firm might possibly arrange to transport metal from Kauateranga to Turua. It appeared that the board had exhausted every other avenue through which there was a possibility of obtaining metal for the permanent roading scheme. The clerk was instructed to ascertain if the County Council would grant the use of punts to bring two loads of metal from the Kauaeranga quarry for patching roads. .
