TAUPIRI EXTENDED MINE

CLOSED DOWN. BLOW TO HUNTLY. HAMILTON, April 5. The Taupiri Extended coal mine closed down yesterday, the entire staff of 150 men being paid off. Hydraulic filling is to be carried out, as it is understood that there is a consider able quantity of coal in the mine which, owing to difficulties, has not yet been worked. It is understood that employment can be found for a certain proportion of the men at Rotawaro, nut the closing of the Extended Mine will certainly result in the depletion of Huntly’s population.
