THE SUNNIER BLONDE.
9 (By a Physician in the Overseas Daily Mail). The question whether fair or dalrkhaired girls have tlie sunnier nature is one which has exercised the human mind from earliest times. Tradition and folklore are em ■ ph-,-.tically on the side of the blonde. In fairy tales and old stories, angels, princcises, and good fairies are always described as brilliant blondes. If we (urn to the old masters we find that in their pictures, which were mostly religious, the good and happy characters are portrayed as blondes, which in addition outnumber the dark types. ' 'Sven modern artists seem to follow this rule and use the blonde rather than the brunette when painting symbolic or supernatural figures. When we come to consider the scientific aspect of the question -ve find much to support the popular belief that bright hair and a- sunny disposition go hand in hand.
Thus it has long been noted' that certain physical characteristics, such as bright colouring, blue eyes, and a fair, quick-changing complexion are most often' to be found in those of a sanguine temperament.
On ;he other hand, dark hair and dark colouring more usually accompany a choleric temperament, while dull hair and complexion go with a phlegmatic disposition.
Blondes, therefore, with their sanguine temperament, are rapid in thought, impulsive, emotional, and react qu’ckly to both pleasure and pain. - Conversely, their darker-haired sisters arc, on the whole, more resigned, and either steady, with deeper feelings and passionate and jealous nature, or phlematic, slow, and plodding.
