DRAINAGE BOARD.

e- I MONTHLY MEETING. I The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was held at Tnrua on Friday. There were present Trustees Gray (chairman), R. H. Heuppcy, R. Baker, J. Mules, and D. G. McMillan. The clerk, Mr J. E. Green, was also in attendance. FACTORY FLOOD-GATE. Mr Mules reported on the state h the factory outlet. He had approach-' ed the dairy company and had received a promise from a director that he would lay the matter before the board and endeavour to have the pipes re-, paired and the drain kept clean. Mr Baker urged that a written undertaking to that effect should be ob>ained. The matter had been .a source of trouble for years. It was decided by members to make an inspection of the drain. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The clerk reported that in the northern area the amount pf general rates levied was £174 15s 9d, and loan rates £74 5s 9d. Of these amounts £43 9s 8d general and £lB 3s 6d loan rates had been collected, leaving £l3l 6s Id general and £56 2s 3d loan outstanding. In the Turua area the figures were: Levied, £lBB 9s 2d and £79 19s 9d; collected, £l3O 10s 4d : outstanding, £57 18s lOd and £24 9s 9d. Central area: Levied, £339 3s and £135 Is 5d ; collected £lBO Os 6d and £7l 14s 3d ; outstanding, £159 2s 6d and £63 7s 2d. Te Kauri area: Levied. £274 4s 4d and £l2B 15s 7d : collected, £9l 8s 2d and £43 10S Id ; outstanding, £.182 16s 2d and £B5 bs 6d Monganui area : Levied, £251 16s lOd and £l4l 9s Id ; collected, £llB 15s 6d and £66 Hs 4d; outstanding, £133 Is 4d and £74 17s 9d. The expenditure in the various areas were : Northern £173, Turua £l?0 Is 4d. Central £176 7s 3d, Te Kauri £l4l 6s Bd, and Monganui £l6l. The clerk was instructed to put the matter of certain outstanding rates hi the.hands pf the board’s solicitors for collection. CLEANING. Mr Baker reported that 30 chains of /the Thames Valley outlet, 40 chains of the Huirau roadside drains, the roadside drain from Orchard East Road to • Willow drain, and also Daily’s outlet had been cleaned. Mr Mules reported that in the Turua area the drains of which the : cleaning was completed were Mill C>’eek, south side of Piako Road, ami th? slaughterhouse. No drains ..were completed in the Monganui or Northern areas. In the Te. Kauri area Tetley’s outlet, 60 chains of Te Kauri No. 2, and 40 chains of the ferry roadside drain had been completed. FENCING. It was reported that several farmers had not yet fenced the board’s drains on their boundaries, and the clerk was instructed to serve the usual notice to fence, failing’which i legal fence under the Act would be demanded. It was decided to ask the County Council for permission to fence certain parts of the roadside drain.
