KEREPEEHI SPORTS.
PROGRAMME APPROVED,
QUESTION OF RACING PERMIT.
When tlie Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs was in Kerepeelii some time ago the question of the legality of the events on the programme of the Sports Club’s annual meeting was brought before him. He promised to look into tlie matter, and suggested that the club rhould apply for permission to hold a hack race meeting. Recently he advised the club by letter that he had been in communication with the Racing Conference and the' Crown Law Office, and had been advised that two events were races, and, therefore, the club not being a licensed racing club, the meeting was illegal. However, as the races did not infringe the rules of the Trotting Association be forwarded a form of application for registration. As the club preferred gallops instead of trots, a committee was appointed to go into the matter of; securing a hack meeting permit for gallops, and this committee has now instructed the secretary to write to the Minister again.
The programme of two years ago having been approved with the two exception,*, it was adopted for the next meeting, and two events similar to the Kerepechi Cup were substituted under the names of the Ngatea and the T'u-. run Handicaps. The cup, which had been presented by Mr H. Brownlee, was allocated to the Hauraki Plains County Settlers event.
it had been suggested that Highland dancing should be included in the programme, but as the club has not so far been able to secure the services of a piper the matter has been held up in the meantime.
