The official opening of the new Fire Brigade Station in ’Hall Street, Paeroa. was performed by the Mayor, Mr W. Marshall, last evening, and a smoke concert was afterwards held ? n the Central Theatre supper rooms. A full report of the proceedings will appear in Monday’s issue.

A special sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held in Paeroa yesterday, when Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., gave judgment in favour of the Paeroa Borough Council, with costs amounting to. £4 16s, in the case of N. Burke v. the Ctuncil in which the plaintiff claimed £25 damages for an accident, Um rseut of his gig overturning through the horse shying at spoil which was alleged to have been negligently placed near the roadside by the borough workmen.

Special grants of £25 for improvements to the school grounds at Orongo. Kopuarabi and Ngatea, respectively, have been approved of. This is primarily intended to enable the committees to gravel the school grounds, as they are very damp in the winter months.

’ The question of the Borough Boundaries Commission was discussed it yesterday’s meeting of"the Ohinemuri County Council, and the chairman and CTs. Hubbard and Johnstone were appointed a sub-committee to represent the council at the sitting.

During the discussion on the •engineer’s report at the monthly meeting of the Thames County Council it was stated that the Kauaeranga bridge was in such a state that it was unsafe for loads over three tons. The Council therefore decided that no more metal should be carted over it. The chairman was instructed to confer with the Borough Council on the matter.

The following stock were slaughtered at the abattoirs during the month of February : 50 cows, 34 steers an l heifers. 135 sheep, 23 lambs, 3 calves, and 5 pigs. The fees collected totalled £52 14s lid.
