ENGINEERS' STATEMENT. WORK FOR THE MONTH. Included in. the engineers’ report to the Thames Valley Electric Power Board meeting yesterday on the work of the month was the following : — THAMES SECTION. Matatoki. —This section, which lias been running for some time on 3300 volts, has now been converten to 11.000 volts and two transformers )f 25 and 10 k.v.a., respectively, installed. The 3300-volt transformers that were in use on this section have been returned to the main depot at Te Aroha. and are available for use in the 3300-volt areas. HAURAKT PLAINS SECTION. Orchard East Road. —The wiring of this 11,000-vplt circuit will be completed within the next few days. A transformer structure has been built, and is .now ready for receiving the transformer. Ngaiea.—On February 6 the 11.000volt submarine cable across the Piako River at Ngatea was destroyed by the scow Hero fouling same with her anchor. This cable had been laid in the bed of the river at a point where boats were never known to anchor, and two large notice boards. were erected indicating where the cable was laid.

A temporary cable was available, and work was immediately started on installing same. The cable was laid, joints made, junction boxes installed, and aii 11,000-volt overhead telephone crossing constructed, so that power was available by 8 p.m. on February 7, which may be considered a particularly smart piece of work. Since then a permanent new cable has been laid, and will shortly be connected up to the main line. Ngatea-Pipiroa-Waitakarnru.— Preparations have been made to start en the erection of this 11,000-volt line, and a number, of 35ft poles have been punted from Kopu to Rawerawe landing on the Piako River.
