NGATEA POST OFFICE.

LARGER BUILDING REQUIRED.

REQUEST TO MINISTER.

During the visit of the Minister for Education, Hon. C. J. Parr, to Ngatea on Wednesday, Mr T. McLoughlin, the Ngatea. riding representative on the Hauraki Plains County Council, waited upon him, and, pointing out the inadequate size’ of. the Ngatea post office and telegraph office, urged the necessity for erecting a building large enough to cope, with the requirements of the district. He pointed out that between the time the Government grant was made and when it wate expended, the cost of building had gone up considerably, consequently the office erected was much smaller than originally intended. The Minister for Public Works had then stated that it was only a temporary structure, and that a permanent building would be erected later on. When approached at Thames in December last the Minister h.nd repeated that it was only a temporary office and that lie was having a report made on the matter. Mr McLoughlin urged the Minister to stress to his colleague the urgency of having a larger office erected. The Hon. Mr Parr Said that he would have pleasure in reminding, the Minister of Public Works of his promises. POSTAL OFFICER’S REPORT. Oh the same day as the deputation waited upon the Hon. C. J. Parr the Chief Postmaster of the Thames .distinct and the Chief Telegraph Engineer Auckland, were in Ngatea to, among other things, report on the question of. a new post office. ■ interviewed later, Mr Boyd said he would report that the present office was much too small, and recommend that a larger one should be erected.

Asked when this was likely to eventuate, Mr Boyd pointed out that this depended upon when Parliament sanctioned the expenditure.
