POWER BOARD.
MANAGERS REPORT. The manager, Mr R. Sprague, reported to yesterday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board for . the month as follows Troublemen. —An extra troubleman Jn>s now been placed in the Matanwla district. This was very necessary owing to the large load now on the ma inis in the Te Poi district. This will allow for one ma-n to be permanently stationed at Matamata, one ar Waharoa, and one at Tirau. Theie should not now be any delay whatever in giving the necessary service to the consumers in the Te Poi locally- M.r. It w’ll be necessary as scon as tnc Waitakaruru section is alive to station a further troublemaa on the Hauraki Plains, and I would recommend that he be stationed at Turua. Th's man would control the Plain? area as far as Carter’s Corner, including kopuarahi, and the present man- would control the area west of o-.rhard East Road and Piako River, including Waitakaruru district. Transformers. —Advice has been received that the transformers that are weeks overdue should arrive in Auckland.on the 6th inst. The position is vcy unsatisfactory owing to io spares being available, and quite a number of transformers require changing. It is anticipated that these will be in operation by March 1. Telephones—Telephones are now being installed over the area. The hi"h tension phones are being used at Matamata and Morrinsville, which makes the Board’s own telephone service complete throughout thu area. Canvass. —Applications for supply have been received during the month fniri two more flaxmills in the Kere-peehi-Kaihere district, and a canvass of the Canal Road ip now being made in order to give a supply if same will be a payable load. A further canvass of Arbuckle’s R n ad has been made owing to a 30h.n. quarry load offering. This canvass was found payable without *llO quarry and the necessary authority for the construction has been given. Poles.—The Louis Theriault should commence loading further load of poles at Newcastle on the 11th inst., and should arrive at Kopu not later than March 20. We are’ in need of 30ft poles for the Morrinsville distrfet, but can keep going until the arrival of the Louis Theriault. The last two shipments of poles were tlie best yet received by the Board, as regards quality and value. ‘Shutdowns”. —During the month of December notification was received from the electrical engineer of proposed “shutdowns” by the Department on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 27, 28, and 29, between the hours of 4.30 and 5.30 p.m. This was < onsidered most unreasonable apd inconsiderate on their part, and it was > uggested to them that the ."shutdown’’ should operate at 6.30 p.m., in < rder that the farmers’ milking siipule not be interfered with. The engineer refused to consider the Hoard’s request,, and on the position being placed before the Hon. Minister for Public Works and the Chief Blec- ( ical Engineer by the chairman you eve now assured of being considered v ith regard to further "-shutdowns.”
