Another fire occurred at Netherton last evening, when a five-roomed dwelling,, practically new, owned and occupied by Mr H. Goble, was destroyed. No particulars are available, but although the residence was insured with the South British Insurance Co.. Ltd., Mr Goble will be a considerable loser, as the house had only been completed a short time.
An outbreak of paralysis in horses is reported from the Ashley and Balcairn districts of North Canterbury, in each case a farmer having lost a valuable animal.’ The disease generally makes its appearance in animals confined to stable paddocks (says the Lyttelton Times).
It is a somewhat remarkable coincidence (says the Poverty Bay Herald) that Mr W. Furneaux, wireless officer on the wrecked Port Elliot, was also on the ill-fated Wiltshire when that vessel was wrecked in May, 1922, of Cuvier Island, and that this was his first visit to New Zealand since the previous disaster. Mr Furneaux denies the suggestion that he is a "Jonah,” but suggests that the coast of New Zealand seems determined to keep him here.
